The Inter-American and European Human Rights Journal

The INTER-AMERICAN & EUROPEAN HUMAN RIGHTS JOURNAL / REVISTA INTERAMERICANA & EUROPEA DE DERECHOS HUMANOS aims to offer an international platform for research in the field of human rights of relevance for (Latin) America and Europe. Situated at the crossroads between both continents, the Journal is well-placed to facilitate an exchange of ideas and views between scholars and practitioners from both European and (Latin-)American universities, research institutions, and non-governmental organisations.

General topics on human rights relevant to the European and Latin-American context shall be considered for publication. In the same way, topics from other continents will also be considered for publication if relevant to the European and (Latin-)American contexts.

This online-only journal covers all aspects of human rights law and interdisciplinary topics.

The Journal appears twice a year. Its editorial board is composed of scholars and experts in the field of human rights. An anonymous assessment of the quality of the submissions is carried out by experts in the relevant areas of human rights.

The Inter-American & European Human Rights Journal / Revista Interamericana & Europea de Derechos Humanos was created within the INTER-AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN HUMAN RIGHTS NETWORK / RED INTERAMERICANA Y EUROPEA DE DERECHOS HUMANOS. This Network was set up in 2005 with the financial support of the European Union, with the purpose of bringing together Latin American and European Universities in order to build up and strengthen capacity in the field of human rights. The Network was composed of 16 universities and other institutions from both (Latin-)America and Europe.

The inaugural edition of the Journal was published in 2006 and continued to be published until 2019, with Intersentia as the publisher. The Journal was temporarily suspended from 2019 until 2024. Since its inception in 2006, Prof Dr Yves Haeck and Prof Dr Clara Burbano Herrera have served as joint editors-in-chief.
